KAWASAKI, JAPAN, DUSSELDORF, Germany, October 25, 2012 --- NLT Technologies (NLT), together with its sales and marketing channels in the Americas and Europe, Renesas Electronics America, Inc. and Renesas Electronics Europe GmbH, announced today that they will start to accept orders for four new 21.3-inch modules with UXGA and QXGA resolution from the end of 2012. Color and monochrome versions are available for each resolution model. These modules are ideal for medical applications, such as the display of radiograms for the interpretation and diagnosis of health conditions.

The new TFT LCD modules achieve high contrast ratio and lower power consumption compared with conventional CCFL models due to a combination of NLT’s proprietary Super Fine TFT (SFT) technology and white LED backlight system. The use of the LED backlight also contributes to the lower environmental impact.

The key benefits of NLT Technologies’ new modules are:

  1. Long-life white LED backlight
NLT’s new products now use white LED backlight units, which are optimally designed with the company’s optical and structural technology. This gives the products a long operating life of 70,000 hours.
Moreover, the LED backlight allows these new modules to achieve lower power consumption and a 40% reduction in thickness compared with the conventional CCFL models.
  2. Improved contrast ratio and gradation characteristics
An enhancement to the panel and backlight design has improved the LCD panel's ability to prevent the leakage of light, thereby improving the visibility of black images. As a result, NLT’s new modules achieve a high contrast ratio of 1400:1, and smooth and precise reproduction of the images required for medical diagnosis.
The new modules with QXGA resolution include a 10-bit driver that enables the device to display 1000 million colors (for the color model) and 3072 gray-scales per pixel (for the monochrome model).
  3. Ultra-wide Viewing Angle
The company’s SFT technology gives the display an ultra-wide viewing angle of 176 degrees, both horizontally and vertically, and reduces the color shift that can occur when viewing the display from an off-angle. These features result in greater flexibility in display placement and viewing position, which makes the module suitable for multi-screen use.

Along with the spread of LCD devices in the medical field, the demands placed on them have also become more complex. Especially with the rapid progress of medical image processing technology in recent years, the need for color images from computer processing, such as "3D-CT" and "Fusion," for medical diagnosis is steadily increasing.

NLT’s LCD modules with SFT technology are recognized for their high image quality and ultra-wide viewing angles, and have been adopted widely by medical equipment manufacturers worldwide.
The four new 21.3-inch modules further expand NLT Technologies’ SFT range. The color models especially make it possible to display medical images and information from a wide selection of angles, without causing undue strain on the eye, while facilitating the diagnosis of medical conditions.
Furthermore, the long-life white LED backlight, included in all new modules, meets demands for low power consumption and mercury-free production. These are top requirements for medical equipment. The LED backlight also enables the module to perform reliably even under tough conditions such as 24-hour operation.
Both the QXGA and UXGA models have the same outside dimensions, giving customers more flexibility in equipment design.

As one of the few LCD module manufacturers to meet the needs of the medical field, NLT Technologies will continue to pursue even higher levels of picture quality in order to supply the best products available.

The new LCD modules will be showcased on NLT Technologies’ booth (#3701) at “FPD International 2012,” which is being held from October 31 to November 2 in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan.
