21.3” QXGA LCD WITH THE PROPRIETARY SFT2 TECHNOLOGY AND QUANTUM DOT FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE

For immediate use May 20, 2015
NLT Technologies, Ltd.

KAWASAKI, JAPAN, May 20, 2015 --- NLT Technologies, Ltd. (President: Susumu Ohi; Head office: Kawasaki, Kanagawa) has developed a new 21.3” diagonal QXGA (Quad Extended Graphics Array) LCD prototype that features quantum dot technology with NLT Technologies’ proprietary new SFT2 (Super Fine TFT2) technology.

SFT2 is NLT’s proprietary new version of SFT, comparable to In-Plane Switching, and a technology that provides excellent viewing performance, even in extreme, off-angle viewing conditions. It significantly improves the aperture ratio compared to conventional TFT via a newly developed pixel structure, resulting in high transmissivity and, wide viewing angles. Thanks to the ultra-high aperture ratio, the light transmissivity dramatically increases, enabling a significant reduction in backlight power consumption (reduced approximately 30% compared with conventional LCDs).

In addition to SFT2, the prototype also utilizes quantum dot technology. This technology enables tuning of the emission wavelength of incident light and enriches color gamut. Usually, expanding the color gamut reduces the luminance of the backlight, causing higher power consumption. When combined with SFT2, however, rich colors can be displayed at high brightness with low power consumption.

The display achieves high luminance (700 cd/m2), high resolution and 100% Adobe RGB coverage. The combination of SFT2 and quantum dot results in better image quality with deeper color saturation, especially superior red color reproduction, making it ideal for medical diagnostic applications as well as graphics and broadcast applications.

A prototype of the new QXGA/quantum dot LCD with SFT2 technology will be showcased at Display Week 2015 (#719), June 2-4 in San Jose, California, USA.
